Neal Heitz says mistakes don’t mean your event won’t be great. Event professionals should work on getting better at quickly identifying and fixing mistakes.
The glory of producing a successful event doesn’t come from producing a completely flawless event from start to finish; the glory of producing a successful event comes from recognizing a mistake early, creating a solution quickly and communicating the “fix” to the client, sponsor or guest in a respectful, calm and amicable manner.
I can’t tell you the countless times I’ve heard that it’s never the actual mistake that becomes a sticking point it’s how quickly the mistake was recognized, communicated and fixed. The scrutiny is less about the mistake itself and more about how it was handled.
It takes practice to resolve mistakes.
